The first installment in the Immortality Shattered series will leave readers anxiously awaiting the next book. Law of the Heretic by Christian Warren Freed is fantasy at its best. All of the elements are there to create an exciting adventure filled with danger and mystery.

Aron Kryte is a young man dedicated to the Hierarchy. It is the only life he knows and he's quickly risen through the ranks of the elite Golden Warriors. The Free Lands have enjoyed a long peace, partially due to Aron and other warriors tasked with patrolling the lands.

However, soon the peace will be threatened and even broken. A darkness is gathering in the Free Lands and things are changing. Whispers about The Staff of Life are heard again, even though it hasn't been seen for over a thousand years. Ancient and powerful, the staff can either save or destroy humanity. Soon this will also change and the staff will reappear.

Many want to possess the staff including the wizard Imelin. Powerful and the last of his order, he has a dark place in his heart that desires the staff. He leaves his place on the High Council for Suroc Tol. It is a dark and forbidding land inhabited by darklings that are waiting for Imelin. Forgotten in all but legend, the wizard has the creatures under control and is ready to find The Staff of Life and bring the Free Lands to its knees.

Other events are being set in motion in the Free Lands that will change it forever. Aron is led into an ambush on patrol, and war is almost inevitable. The elves have been forced to flee Dol'ir fortress when an ancient attacks, and there are only a few men and women prepared to face the coming danger. The change starts slowly in Galdea where the king is no longer in control.

Law of the Heretic by Christian Warren Freed is a well-written fantasy story. The writing keeps the story flowing and imparts enough information to prevent readers from getting confused. Several characters play major and minor roles in the story, and Freed does an excellent job of helping readers keep everyone straight.

The novel does start with plenty of action but there are slow parts as well. While it can slow the book's pace down a little, the backstory is necessary to become fully immersed in the story. If you're looking for a fun and exciting fantasy adventure, spend a few hours in the Free Lands with the Law of the Heretic.

"It was like a dream. The quest that had begun years ago was nearing culmination. All they had left to do was seize the object and begin the next crusade. The liberation of the world was about to begin."

About the Author - Christian Warren Freed

David Ackley

Christian W. Freed was born in Buffalo, N.Y. more years ago than he would like to remember. After spending more than 20 years in the active duty US Army he has turned his talents to writing. Since retiring, he has gone on to publish over 20 military fantasy and science fiction novels, as well as his memoirs from his time in Iraq and Afghanistan, a children's book, and a pair of how to books focused on indie authors and the decision making process for writing a book and what happens after it is published.

His first published book (Hammers in the Wind) has been the #1 free book on Kindle 4 times and he holds a fancy certificate from the L Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest. Ok, so it was for 4th place in one quarter, but it's still recognition from the largest fiction writing contest in the world. And no, he's not a scientologist.

Passionate about history, he combines his knowledge of the past with modern military tactics to create an engaging, quasi-realistic world for the readers. He graduated from Campbell University with a degree in history and a Masters of Arts degree in Digital Communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He currently lives outside of Raleigh, N.C. and devotes his time to writing, his family, and their two Bernese Mountain Dogs. If you drive by you might just find him on the porch with a cigar in one hand and a pen in the other. You can find out more about his work by following him on Facebook or on Twitter.
